Oscar Fashion: Best of the Best

Everyone who’s anyone wants to make it on the Oscars Best Dressed list. It’s the height of the awards season and no other event has the glamour and style of the Oscar red carpet. Only a few lucky ladies were well-dressed enough to make it on this list. Here’s the final tally.

Jennifer Lawrence. If you were wondering who was the Best Dressed on Oscar night, it was hands-down Jennifer Lawrence. The stunning young actress sparkled in a simple Calvin Klein red dress. Lawrence didn’t dress up the look with flashy jewelery; her only sparkles was a small clutch. The actress’s pretty face and gorgeous hair had all the sparkle she needed. Though the dress reminded some viewers of Pamela Anderson’s Baywatch bathing suit, she made heads turn and jaws drop.
Natalie Portman. Wearing a purple dress by boho Rodarte, the actress positively glowed even before she took home the Best Actress statue for her performance as prima ballerina in “Black Swan.” Her hair was swept to one side in order to reveal her tasseled accent earring. She looked romantic and feminine without a ton of frills. It was lovely.
Mila Kunis. Kunis wowed in a lilac stunner that fit Kunis’ body like a glove. The dress was exciting and reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour with an oh-so-modern twist. The dress managed to be a little risque and romantic at the same time. It was a distinct departure from her usual looks this season, but it was no less head-turning.
Reese Witherspoon. America, meet Oscar Barbie. Witherspoon looked picture-perfect with her high ponytail and chic Armani dress. Though her dress was a simple black-and-white number, Witherspoon still looked amazing and unique.
Celine Dion. Celine Dion on a Best Dressed list? There’s a first. Dion looked stunning with a well-chosen slinky Armani dress that hugged her body perfectly. Outside of fellow Best Dressed winners Jennifer Lawrence and Mila Kunis, this was one of the best-tailored outfits of the night. Her necklace was the absolute perfect accessory to her gown. No one would believe this woman just gave birth four months ago.

Anne Hathaway’s Oscar Looks: From Best to Worst

As hosts, Anne Hathaway and James DeFranco flopped. There were awkward pauses, poorly delivered jokes, and nervous fidgeting. Hathaway did wow the fashion crowd with her many gown changes, however. From best to worst, from fantastic to flop, here are Hathaway’s looks of the evening.

Hathaway opened the Oscars with a fabulous homage to old Hollywood in the form of a Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci gown. It was ivory with some glorious detailing on the bodice. Considering what Hathaway had just worn on the red carpet, this gown was a welcome relief–especially after the awful Valentino gown she wore on the red carpet.
For her third hosting appearance, Hathaway took the stage in a corseted Vivienne Westwood ballgown that perfectly captured the elegance of the evening. Echoing her “Princess Diaries” days, Hathaway looked positively regal.
Though it didn’t photograph nearly as well as it looked on stage, Hathaway’s dark red Versace was a million times more fitted than her red Valentino gown from the red carpet.
The beaded Oscar de la Renta silver gown was easily one of the most memorable of the evening, seeing as Hathaway spun around to show the audience the beaded gown’s swishy movement. This dress was certainly on trend, calling forth the Studio 64 glamour that’s been hitting the runways as of late.
Armani had another Oscar hit with a long sapphire-colored metallic gown.
Some people in the audience hated Hathaway’s tuxedo, which was custom-made for her singing solo. Still, the tuxedo was perfect for Hathaway’s “On My Own” tribute. It was the most at ease we’d see her all night, even with sky-high stilettos. Impressive.
Tom Ford outfitted Hathaway’s final dress of the evening, but the lace spirals were placed in some questionable locations.
Hathaway’s worst look was the ill-fitted, yawn-worthy Valentino dress she wore on the red carpet– precisely when she should’ve been wearing her best.
