Investing in the Fashion Industry

If fashion is your passion, many opportunities exist for investing in the fashion industry. If you’re forex trading or keeping an eye on the news, you know that the global markets are changing continuously. This fluctuation extends to the fashion industry. When currency rates go up and down, you’ll see new opportunities for the import and export of clothing and accessories between countries.

Choose a Clothing Line That Moves You

Ask anyone who is forex trading, investing in real estate or auditioning for his next movie role, one of the requirements of success in any venture is enjoying what you do. When investing in the fashion industry, you must love fashion. Choose a clothing line or item that you can market easily because you enjoy wearing it and actually enjoy seeing it worn by other people.

Partner With a Knowledgeable Investor

If you love the creative side of fashion and need help with the logistics, accounting and exporting aspects of the business, partner with a knowledgeable person who has mastered these tasks. You might travel together to a country that manufactures clothing for lower prices. While your partner does the math about whether the purchase will bring in the profits at the current exchange rate, you can picture if the clothing will be a hit back home.

Investing in the fashion industry can be a fun and lucrative venture. To make money doing what you enjoy, pay attention to both the creative aspects of the industry as well as the global economic forces at play.

Here’s the top-seven list for guys who buffed up for movie or TV roles. Some of them really blossomed, some of them merely touched up what they already had.

1.) Chris Evans hopes to capture hearts this year with his hotness on screen as “Captain America: The First Avenger.” It’s not his first superhero role, but he buffed up a whole lot since his “Fantastic Four” films.

2.) “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” last year showed us just how buff Jake Gyllenhaal got. His routine now includes a hard workout to keep him ripped.

3.) “Thor,” starring Chris Hemsworth changed Chris’ looks completely. He had to put on 20 pounds and he did it by eating tons of chicken and working out until he looked like the God of Thunder.

4.) 2004’s “Blade Trinity” starred heartthrob Ryan Reynolds. Ryan went through a transformation from scrawny kid in 2002 to the well-built super vampire hunter he played in “Blade Trinity.”

5.) Last but not least is Hugh Jackman in 2009’s “Wolverine.” He went from a singing dancer on Broadway to the metal-clawed superhero mutant in the movies. How’d he do it? By lifting everything, he said.

6.) “Thor,” starring Chris Hemsworth is this year’s new stud. He’s always been good looking but now he looks like the God of Thunder. He ate tons of chicken and worked out hard.

7.) We’re used to laughing at Seth Rogen, but for his “The Green Hornet” role, he was very serious. He sports a more confident walk now, and deservedly so, having gone from a chubby boy to athletic young man.

Creating Your Own Celebrity Fashion

Celebrities have always had a say in influencing fashion. They are blessed with ideal bodies and bottomless pocketbooks that give them endless opportunities to create impeccable styles. Although most of us are on limited budgets and don’t have access to designer resources, there are ways we can copy celebrity trends to form our own personal styles.

One of the trends sweeping Hollywood is stripes. In a year that brought floral patterns and polka dots back to the forefront, simple stripes have also been resurrected. Celebrities like Ashley Tinsdale have been spotted wearing horizontal striped tops or toting striped bags. Since the stripe pattern has been around the block a few times, you can check thrift stores for great vintage pieces to pair with your favorite jeans. Flare legs are back in style this season, so forgo the skinny jeans and break out the denim from a few years ago. When in doubt, read up on the latest Hollywood gossip to find up-to-date trends and see what colors are gracing the red carpet.

As for footwear, celebrities have been spotted wearing wood-soled sandals, another fashion item with a vintage air. Put on a coat of Katy Perry or Serena Williams nail polish and you’ve achieved a celebrity look in no time, with plenty of change to spare.

To keep your checkbook balanced, set aside a fashion budget each month. Consider opening a prepaid credit card, such as the Tom Joyner REACH card, or even a special savings account. Keep in mind that you don’t have to buy designer labels to look like a celebrity, since it’s more about eclectic tastes than the name on the tag.

Oscar Nightmares: The Worst-Dressed List

Oscars Night is the night a nation full of hungry eyes turns to the television to learn about the year’s movies, see who wins what, and hungrily judge Hollywood’s fashion choices. This year’s Oscars ceremony was no exception. There were hits, there were near misses, and then there were the nightmares. This list represents the worst of the worst.

  1. Melissa Leo. Melissa, what were you thinking? This dress looked like someone laid their grandmother’s doily on top of gold foil. The collar was huge and it looked ill-fitting. Though this dress wasn’t nearly as memorable as her acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor, in which the actress said the f-word on national television.
  2. Marisa Tomei. This former Oscar-winning actress should have stunned in her vintage 50′s dress, but the dress looked cheap on Tomei. Her hair looked like she hadn’t brushed it that day and it definitely didn’t match her retro getup. It was not a good day for Tomei.
  3. Nicole Kidman. Kidman’s white dress had a very odd shape to it. While this dress looked great on the runway, it looked hideous on Kidman. It made her hips look wide and the white color seemed to wash out her skin. It looked a little like origami. The hem was also a really weird length. Kidman has stunned so many times on the red carpet that it was really a shock to see her in such an odd choice.
  4. Cate Blanchett. This is easily the most controversial choice on this list, because Blanchett’s dress was a stunning creation by famed designer Givenchy. Unfortunately, the dress photographs beautifully, but it didn’t look right on the red carpet. The bubbled texture was really odd and the shoulders were an odd shape. The color combination didn’t read well on camera. It was a beautifully artistic dress, but not the right choice for the the Academy Awards red carpet.

Anne Hathaway’s Oscar Looks: From Best to Worst

As hosts, Anne Hathaway and James DeFranco flopped. There were awkward pauses, poorly delivered jokes, and nervous fidgeting. Hathaway did wow the fashion crowd with her many gown changes, however. From best to worst, from fantastic to flop, here are Hathaway’s looks of the evening.

  1. Hathaway opened the Oscars with a fabulous homage to old Hollywood in the form of a Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci gown. It was ivory with some glorious detailing on the bodice. Considering what Hathaway had just worn on the red carpet, this gown was a welcome relief–especially after the awful Valentino gown she wore on the red carpet.
  2. For her third hosting appearance, Hathaway took the stage in a corseted Vivienne Westwood ballgown that perfectly captured the elegance of the evening. Echoing her “Princess Diaries” days, Hathaway looked positively regal.
  3. Though it didn’t photograph nearly as well as it looked on stage, Hathaway’s dark red Versace was a million times more fitted than her red Valentino gown from the red carpet.
  4. The beaded Oscar de la Renta silver gown was easily one of the most memorable of the evening, seeing as Hathaway spun around to show the audience the beaded gown’s swishy movement. This dress was certainly on trend, calling forth the Studio 64 glamour that’s been hitting the runways as of late.
  5. Armani had another Oscar hit with a long sapphire-colored metallic gown.
  6. Some people in the audience hated Hathaway’s tuxedo, which was custom-made for her singing solo. Still, the tuxedo was perfect for Hathaway’s “On My Own” tribute. It was the most at ease we’d see her all night, even with sky-high stilettos. Impressive.
  7. Tom Ford outfitted Hathaway’s final dress of the evening, but the lace spirals were placed in some questionable locations.
  8. Hathaway’s worst look was the ill-fitted, yawn-worthy Valentino dress she wore on the red carpet– precisely when she should’ve been wearing her best.
